This day to inspire those recently diagnosed, is also a gathering of support for families, and an outreach to the community.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) honours all cancer survivors and hopes to celebrate the occasion with them.

“CANSA wants to go beyond just celebrating this day with cancer survivors; it is to share with survivors all the ways in which CANSA can help them during their cancer journey. We have many survivor programmes in which they can get involved,” said Gerda Strauss, CANSA Head of Service Delivery.

Last Thursday, CANSA hosted a high tea in conjunction with Blackrock Casino.

“We supported this initiative of CANSA as a way of supporting the community, while acknowledging cancer survivors and letting them know they are not forgotten,” said Blackrock Casino Marketing Manager, Veneshrie Chetty.

Newcastle CANSA Community Mobiliser, Sherika Lallie said events such as the high tea were important, and thanked the casino for its support. “This function was to celebrate survivors’ life and their victory over cancer.”
