Festival of Art bonds a community

Township homes were turned into galleries and performing art spaces.

The Newcastle Arts Festival is an annual art exhibition platform hosted by the Newcastle Creative Network, an arts and recreation non-profit organisation working in and around Newcastle.

During the past weekend, ten houses were transformed into art galleries exhibiting locally produced visual art. A series of music performances also took place on a street in Section 4, Madadeni, while some of the houses were painted by visual artists from Blackout Ink (Johannesburg) and the Okuhle Arts Organisation.

The festival, which is held annually in Madadeni, is a collaborative effort between the Newcastle Creative Network, local art organisations, artists, the Carnegie Art Gallery, Fort Amiel Museum and the Maboneng Township Arts experience, a national art exhibition platform which aims to transform township homes into galleries and performing art spaces.

The organisation would like to thank everyone who assisted in making the event a success.
