Amajuba District Municipality (ADM) hosted a full council meeting last Thursday afternoon.
Proceedings were initially delayed due to the unavailability of minutes for members of council, after which nominations were opened for the position of the day’s speaker.
At present, there is no district speaker for ADM council.
Councillor David Ngwenya was ultimately given the opportunity.
Shortly thereafter, the council agenda was displayed on the projector screen.
One of the first orders of business was the filling of a council vacancy.
Municipal manager, Sipho Zwane said a formal declaration had been received from the IEC with regard to the successful candidate.
Opposition parties were not having any of this, however.
Inkatha Freedom Party councillor, Thamsanqa Nzuza said if the filling of the vacancy was not a separate agenda item, the party would not accept further debate on the matter.
