According to Potgieter, one of the suspects dropped his wallet at the scene, thereby providing authorities with his ID number.

“We started an investigation, which led us to believe the suspects had already left Newcastle in the stolen vehicle, and were heading towards Standerton.”

With this information in hand, Potgieter informed the Standerton SAPS, as well as a Standerton-based security company of the incident.

They spotted the vehicle, but the suspects managed to once again evade arrest.

“This is when we contacted the Secunda and Leandra Flying Squad, who spotted the vehicle and gave chase.”

This subsequently led to the arrest of one of the suspects.
