Although work must still be done, the appearance of the cemetery has improved.

A new plan aims to eliminate ongoing problems at local cemeteries.

This was outlined in an interview on Friday afternoon with SED of Community Services, Dr Dumisani Thabethe.

He said this plan would improve the appearance of burial sites.

Last week, Dr Thabethe visited the Hardwick Street, Roy Point, Cavan, Section One and Section 42 cemeteries.

From these, he noted long grass and sinking grave sites were the most prominent problems.

Yet he believed regular grass cutting was not a viable solution.

“We have decided to spray a chemical to keep the cemeteries clean. This should last about six months.”
