Three suspects accused of murder have been found guilty and were convicted by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on March 28.
The suspects were charged for the murder of 87-year-old Venktas Govender, who went missing on September 2, 2015 and was found dead the following day in a forest at Durnacol.

The following day (September 4)Â well-known Durnacol business owner, Piet Maree, was also stabbed with a knife when he was closing his shop.
He was rushed to Mediclinic Newcastle, where he later died.
Detective Sergeant BG Mbatha started the investigation, which led to the arrest of the first accused, Sabela Bonginkosi Kubheka (27) on September 15, 2018.

The suspect was interrogated, whereafter two more suspects, Sandiso Mabaso (20) and Sipho Hlatshwayo (27), were arrested in Madadeni.
The accused were convicted on March 9 and sentenced on March 28 on the following charges:
- Kidnapping (five years)
- Robbery with Aggravated Circumstances (15 years)
- Murder (life imprisonment for double murder).
