Operation Fiela leads to the arrest of over 12 criminals in oSizweni

More than twelve suspected criminals were arrested during an Intelligence Driven and Disruptive Operation was conducted in the oSizweni Policing Area recently.

‘Operation Fiela’ as it was called, was conducted during the early hours of the morning, and consisted of SAPS members from the Amajuba, Uthekela and Umzinyathi Clusters, Newcastle POP Unit, oSizweni and Newcastle Crime Prevention Units, Newcastle K9 Unit and oSizweni SAPS.

Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communication and Liaison Officer, Captain Jabulani Ncube said the aim of Operation Fiela was to address and decrease crime in oSizweni such as:

– Housebreaking,

– Business and residential theft and burglary,

– Robbery

– Assault GBH,

– Assault common,

– Rape,

– Sexual sssault,

– Domestic violence,

– General theft,

– Theft of motor vehicles,

– Theft out and from motor vehicles, and

– Live-stock theft.

“This operation was led by Senior Officer’s Colonel M.M. Nkosi, Colonel M.I. Sangweni, Leutenant-Colonel J.G. Neethling, and Lieutenant-Colonel E.B. Mdlalose, who ensured the operation ran smoothly and that criminals were brought to book.”

The first two days of Operation Fiela proved vital as six suspects, aged between 18 to 23 years old, were arrested for crimes such as housebreaking and theft at residential premises.

Further an additional two more suspects aged 20 and 21 years respectively, were arrested in connection with residential burglary and theft.

Later on that evening, a 40-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of 0.7grams of dagga and Mandrax, before police arrested an additional five suspects for drunk driving.

Furthermore, police recovered various items believed to be stolen goods connected to a series of house burglaries and theft.

All suspects will appear in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court soon to be sentenced accordingly.
