Three people have allegedly died after the Boxer Centre ATM bombing turned shooting.

According to sources, three people have died after an alleged ATM bombing turned shooting.

The incident occurred at the Boxer Centre in Madadeni Section 5, shortly after 9pm last night (February 28).

It is believed the bombing suspects opened fire at two officials at the scene.

This reportedly resulted in some bystanders being injured.

The suspects managed to flee the scene, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Emergency services were summoned, and multiple patients were stabilised before being transported to Madadeni Provincial Hospital.

SAPS, security companies and CPF members quickly orchestrated a manhunt to track the suspects down.

This resulted in the blockading of all major roads to Dannhauser, Ingagane, oSizweni, Newcastle and surrounds.

It is believed SAPS’s National Intervention Unit from Johannesburg also intervened, and the suspects were located in Kwamdakane near Dannhauser.

Another shootout ensued, which resulted in the fatal wounding of two suspects.

Two more suspects were taken into custody, while two others were said to have fled the scene.

Police recovered two assault rifles and a 9mm pistol, which will be entered in as evidence.

According to the source, it is believed one of the suspects is a wanted criminal who escaped from prison a few weeks back, and is also accused of hijacking and shooting a traffic official in Gauteng.

The weapon in his possession allegedly belonged to the official, and was stolen during the hijacking.

Sadly, one of the residents caught in crossfire at Boxer Centre succumbed to her injuries while in hospital.
