During the operation, 376 master cases of illicit cigarettes with the street value of approximately R5 076 000 were confiscated.
Members also seized a rifle, a Mercedes Vito panel Van and R13 000 cash. The first suspect appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on December 14 and was granted bail of R7 500; the case was postponed to January 25, 2018.
The second suspect appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on December 14, and he was remanded back into police custody.
His case was adjourned to December 19, for bail application.
