Newcastle FCS Unit have finally arrested six men who are believed to be involved in several rape, robbery and murder cases which took place behind the Rumelin Stadium in Madadeni recently.
According to spokesperson for Newcastle SAPS, Captain Jabulani Ncube, October saw an increase of incidents which reportedly took place at the Stadium, which led the police to the conclusion, that these crimes were committed by the same person[s].
“This happened two weekends in a row, which led the FCS to believe they were committed by the same perps, from Madadeni Sections 3 and 4. Information was followed up, but the suspects remained unknown.”
The first incident involved just one female victim, however, the second incident took place the following weekend, and involved both a female and a male victim.
“On both occasions the females were raped, and a firearm was produced to get compliance from the man.”
According to Capt. Ncube, a few days later, 47-year-old Mr Nkosi, was shot and killed in the same area.
It was alleged the deceased, in the company of a female companion, was stationed in his car behind Rumelin Stadium, when they were accosted and attacked by an unknown male.
“The suspect produced a firearm and shot Mr Nkosi in the face, fatally wounding him. The suspect then dragged him from his vehicle and left his body in the veld. He then used Mr Nkosi’s vehicle to flee the scene, with the female companion still in the vehicle.”
It’s believed the suspect lost control of the vehicle which caused the vehicle to overturn, whereupon the female then managed to escape and summon for police assistance.
“Another motorist stopped and offered the injured suspect help, but he produced the firearm again and shot the motorist in the arm and stomach before fleeing in his vehicle, a Toyota RunX with registration number, NN 59734.”
The FCS Unit then intensively investigated the cases, which led to the arrest of a man in Madadeni Section 5 .
“The arrested suspect is originally from Empangeni, and was found in possession of a 45 mm pistol. He confessed that he had killed the driver of the white vehicle which, and confessed to committing another rape.”
Upon further investigation, the SAPS arrested an additional five suspects who were chased by the FCS Unit from Madadeni to the Mondlo area.
“They then fled Mondlo to Msinga, which is were they were apprehended.”
Three firearms were also believed to be found in their possession, as well as belongings linking them to the Madadeni rapes, robberies and murder cases.
All suspects are currently in SAPS custody for cases in Empangeni for armed robbery and murder.
“Unfortunately for them they got caught by the Newcastle FCS police and therefore linked to different cases in KZN.”
All six arrested suspects will appear at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court soon.
