With a theme this year of ‘Count Me In: Together Moving a Non-Violent South Africa Forward’, the ministers will hand out gifts to the elderly as well as to child-headed households in the Utrecht area.

They will also engage with the community on experiences as victims of violence.

According to a statement from the Department of Public Enterprises, Martins will also encourage elderly women to be vigilant against abuse.

“The dialogue is part of a series of engagements between Government and communities where key stakeholders will lament the scourge of abuse against women and children and the impact of violence in society.”

On the day, primary services and screenings will be provided by the Eskom Bophelong Health Bus, in addition to mobile services from SA Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the Department of Home Affairs.

Proceedings begin at 9.30am at the Utrecht Museum.
