Rapists sentenced to life imprisonment for brutal assault

A woman has found justice, after her rapists were sentenced to life imprisonment.

After suffering a brutal assault at the hands of three men, a woman has finally found justice.

The woman’s nightmare began on January 8, 2016 when she was woken up by someone forcing her house’s door open.

According to Newcastle SAPs spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube, the woman was accosted by three men.

“They tied her up with shoe laces and electric cable. She was then repeatedly raped by the three suspects.”

During the horrific rape, she recognised one attacker and asked him why he was raping her.

“However, it proved to be a serious mistake on her part in mentioning his name,” said Captain Ncube.

The suspects decided to kill her as she knew one of them, so the men slit her throat and stabbed her once in the chest.

She passed out from a loss of blood and believing their victim dead, the men then ransacked her house, before stealing her cellphone.

After regaining consciousness, the woman crawled to a neighbour’s house, and the SAPS and ambulance services were summoned.

The men were arrested three days later in Vryheid, after the Family Crime, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit conducted a massive manhunt for the suspects.

They were caught with the victim’s cellphone, her tablet, the knives they had used and even the used condoms from the rape in their possession.

The suspects: Sifiso Ndlovu, Thembinkosi Nhlapo and Zamokuhle Buthelezi were all charged and kept in police custody.

Nhlapo and Buthelzi both pled guilty and were sentenced to life for rape, 15 years for armed robbery, seven years for attempted murder and two years for housebreaking.

Although Ndlovu maintained his innocence, he was convicted and sentenced on all counts and received the same sentence as his co-accused.

A still very traumatised victim expressed her gratitude to the members of the Newcastle FCS Unit who endeavour to fight for the rights of rape victims, and for justice.
