JUST IN: Chinese factory owner stabbed in alleged robbery

A factory owner is in stable condition after being stabbed.

A Chinese factory owner was hospitalised after being stabbed during an alleged armed robbery on Friday evening, November 10.

Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Captain Jabulani Ncube said the incident occurred at approximately 7.45pm, when the victim opened the factory’s doors for one of his employees.

While doing this, the suspects allegedly gained access to the property. Armed with knives, the men allegedly threatened the factory owner.

In an attempt to scare the perpetrators away, the victim pulled out a firearm and fired a warning shot in the air. However, the men proceeded to attack him, stabbing him several times before fleeing with his firearm.

“One factory employee was arrested on Friday, following the incident, for further questioning,” said Captain Ncube.

While investigations are underway, Alex Liu from the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, said the victim was well on his way to recovery.

“He had two operations and is in a stable condition of recovery.”

Having communicated with the victim, Liu extended his gratitude to the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, its members, as well as the SAPS for the support and assistance.
