Budding shooters are taking aim at targets in Newcastle.

Between Sunday (October 1) and Thursday (October 5), the South African National Schools Shooters Union (SANSSU) is hosting its annual National Championships at the Show Grounds.

In 2016, Champ Marketing was contacted by SANSSU KwaZulu-Natal to assist with the bidding process.

The intention was to host the national competition locally, and SANSSU’s National Committee has since confirmed Newcastle as hosts for both this year and 2018.

“This is just one of many events bringing tourism to Newcastle,” said Johan Pieters of Champ Marketing.

In a grand opening ceremony held on Sunday at Ferrum High School Grounds, participants from seven provinces waved their flags high and donned their battle faces in wake of the competition.

The business community can look forward to more than 1 000 visitors to Newcastle during the competition, with competitors representing KZN, Northern Cape, North West, Free State, Western Cape, Gauteng and Mpumalanga.

A local organising committee is certain the event will be a success.

Newcastle Municipality assisted in securing the facilities for the event, and is being proactive in helping the committee ensure tourists to Newcastle feel welcome in our town,” Pieters concluded.
