August 12 – The Hindu Women’s Forum will be hosting its annual women’s tea function. Themed, Women, the pillars of society, the event promises to be informative and fun.

It is set to take place at the Status Hall from 10.30am. Tickets are available at R70 per person and the dress code is smart casual.

NKZN Youth Choir presents 90 Minutes Sunday Sounds of Music

August 13 – NKZN Youth Choir presents 90 Minutes Sunday Sounds of Music. This music extravaganza will be hosted together with Pretoria Boys High and Ferrum Senior Choir. Time: 11.30am for 12pm. Place: Ferrum High School. Tickets will be sold at R30 per adult and R20 per child. Curry and rice, coffee, tea and cold drinks will be for sale. Call 083 600 7275.

The Autobarn Dirt Buster Challenge

September 2 – The Autobarn Dirt Buster Challenge will take place at the Newcastle Oval Track from 9am until late. Motor enthusiasts can look forward to mudsters, speedsters and show stirrers who will bring it to the track along with many more surprises. Show your ride and show the dirt. Enjoy a 2km and 5km inflatable mud obstacle course. Cash and hampers to be won. Enjoy a flea market while enjoying the action packed racing.

Wakkerstroom Annual Charity Golf Day

September 2 – Wakkerstroom’s DeKotzenhof, will be hosting its annual charity golf day. This year’s chosen charity is Reach for a Dream.

The event will take place at Wakkerstroom, Volksrust Golf Course. Tee off times begin from 8.30am to 10am on the day. Format: Individual Stableford limited to 60 players (15 x 4 balls). Cost: R4 000 – Four ball. This will include green fees, a light breakfast, a halfway house meal, prize giving dinner and accommodation in Wakkerstroom on Saturday night. A cash bar will be available at the halfway house and prize giving dinner. There are a limited number of golf carts for hire @ R160 per cart. The aim of this golf day is to encourage new golfers from out of town to visit Wakkerstroom for the weekend.

Reach for a Dream grants magical dreams to children and young adults fighting life-threatening illnesses. Projects include Queen for a Day and Captain Courage to lift the spirits of young girls and boys. Jabulani is a team of magicians and comedians who visit children that cannot leave the hospital. “Send a Bear” takes a bear to hospitalised children and Camp Sunshine allows ill children to enjoy a holiday just like any other child. Dundee Choir Festival

September 25 – The Dundee Choir Festival hosted by the Dundee Methodist Church, will take place at the Battlefields Lodge from 9am. Come and enjoy food stalls, a Kids Zone, flea market, art and crafts, entertainment and many displays. Stall bookings are already available. Entrance will cost R10 per adult and R5 per child.

Eljoenai Okto Beer Festival

October 7 – You are hereby invited to attend the Eljoenai Okto Beer Festival at the Eljoenai Country Venue in Memel. Enjoy live music by Jaryd Smith, food and a whole lot of entertainment. Nofta ballroom and line dance classes

New Age of Newcastle (NAON)

All NAON members are invited to attend a workshop every Thursday from 10am to 3pm.

Free sewing classes will be offered.

Ramakrishna Sub-Centre – free Maths Tuition

Free Maths Tuition for Grade 8 learners will be offered on Saturdays from 9.00 am to 10.00 am. Own transport to be provided for tuition.

The first 20 students to register will be accepted. Registration will take place on Thursdays from 3pm to 4pm at the Ramakrishna Ashram – Green Street.

Ramakrishna Sub-Centre – Varalakshmi Varatham

August 4 – The centre will observe Varalakshmi Varatham [Lakshmi Puja] at 6.30 pm at the Green Street Ashram.

17th Annual Maha Yagna Pooja

August 13 – The Shree Sanathan Dharma Purohit Mandal will host its 17th Annual Maha Yagna Pooja for rain, grain, peace, prosperity and unity. The pooja will begin at 8am at the corner of Dixon and St Thomas Street, Lennoxton. A peace walk will precede the pooja, starting at 7am. All youth are encouraged to join the peace walk. Special blessings and prayers will be done for learners, including a Saraswathi Pooja, which will be carried out by the priest. The pundits will recite 1008 mantras on the day. Parsadh and lunch will be served. Any form of donation should be handed to Pundit Ram, Pundit Suresh, Pundit Panday, Pundit Mohan Maharaj, Pundit Mugan Maharaj or Pundit Roshan Maharaj.

Hindi Pracharni Sabha (HPS) AGM Notice

Ramakrishna Hinduism for Children’s Programme

The Ramakrishna Newcastle Sub-Centre conducts the Hinduism for Children’s Educational Programme on Thursdays, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm at the centre.

The programme encompasses pre-school to matric classes, whereby the different aspects of Hinduism, including the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita are discussed.

Transport is provided for the children and a light snack is served to all present. We encourage all parents to send their children to these educational classes and to ensure that their children attend regularly.

Hindi Pracharni Sabha (HPS)

Members of the community are invited to satsang on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm. Ramayan recital classes are held every Sunday from 9am to 10.30am.

Hindi Classes at Hindi Pracharni Sabha

Evening classes for children and adults, who want to learn the Hindi language, has commenced for all grades at the HPS. Hindi Bol students learn oral communication only. Other students are registered and taught by qualified and experienced educators for their relevant grades. These students write the annual National Examination with the Hindi Shiksha Sangh.
