In celebration of Mandela Month, Newcastle Mayor Makhosini Nkosi was out serving his 67 minutes in Madadeni on July 19 where he participated in the renovations of three houses.

The municipality and business people had embarked on a project to help build the homes of three families in need. At the first home, the Mayor and his team helped to erect a roof, install windows and flooring and build an outside toilet facility.

The walls at the second home were repaired and reinforced which ensured the house was stable to live in.

After being destroyed by a storm, the third house received much needed attention. The entire RDP house was reconstructed including the windows, doors and roofing.

Aside from assisting in renovating houses, the Mayor accompanied by his deputy Duduzile Sibiya distributed food hampers to families who’s homes were in need of repairs.

In addition, Mayor Nkosi together with the Chinese Consulate in Durban Nin Jun, David Jufeng and South African Minnan Chamber of Commerce, Mr Zhu Jialong distributed 300 food parcels and 300 blankets to orphans and senior citizens of Ward 29.

He concluded that Mandela Day and Mandela Month was a time for ordinary citizens to prosper by doing a good deed for someone else.
