Children win big in the Wakkerstroom’s arts & crafts competition

Samkelisiwe Nkosi comes in fifth place, she proudly shows off her art entry and prize.

Wakkerstroom’s Art & Craft Competition as part of the June Art Ramble for Children was a buzz with entertainment.

This year, children were encouraged to use their creativity and submit art to the theme of Hand and Footprints.

On Youth day, a number of locals from Wakkerstroom and visitors were given supplies an enter the competition.

These were added to ones already hand delivered by parents and children themselves. Other entries also came from as far as Country College in Volksrust.

The public cast their votes and parents of the top five children were contacted. Two winners present were able to receive their prizes on the day.

“We were proud to receive so many more entries from Wakkerstroom this year, and in fact the winning Prize went to Hayley Laverack of Wakkerstroom. Hayley is 11-years-old and currently passionate about sketching horses,” said organisers.

Part of the substantial prize she received was a session with many of Wakkerstroom’s well-known artists, who will coach Hayley in the hopes of igniting her passion further.

The winners are as follows:

1. Hayley Laverack

2. Thembi Shiba

3. Faith Springhall

4. Ubaadah Chotia

5. Samkelisiwe Nkosi

The organisers of the event thanked all sponsors of the prizes.

Congratulations to all winners!
