Another suspect believed to be involved in the ‘Hammer men robbery’ was arrested on Thursday, June 29 by Dannhauser police.

The suspect is believed to be linked to an business robbery which occurred on Koppie Allen Farm, outside Dannhauser, on May 15.

Dannhauser SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Sergeant Mfanafuthi Nyembe said three men came to the shop at around 1am.

They allegedly gained entrance by breaking through the wall using hammers.

“Once inside, the suspects ordered the shop owner to hand over the safe keys, before firing a warning shot.

After refusing to hand over the keys, the owner said the suspects then broke into the safe.

They took cash, airtime, cigarettes and cell phones to the value of R30 000, before fleeing the scene.”

One suspect was apprehended the same night, after investigations led police to the whereabouts of the vehicle used during the robbery.

Determined to mete out justice, police continued their investigations. This eventually led to the arrest of a second suspect on June 29.

The 27-year-old suspect appeared in the Dannhauser Magistrate’s Court on July 3.

“We would like to thank the members of the community for working together with the police to ensure the perpetrators were brought to justice.

We are appealing to each and every one to stand up against crime and make our country a better place for all,” concluded Sergeant Nyembe.
