TAKE NOTE: EFF leader, Julius Malema to stand trial in Newcastle tomorrow

Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF), Chief in Command (CIC), Julius Malema's two-day trial tomorrow. He is seen with EFF Spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

Newcastillians are cautioned ahead of the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF), Chief in Command (CIC), Julius Malema’s two-day trial tomorrow.

Malema, who previously appeared before Magistrate, Ian Colditz, is facing charges of contravening the 1956 Riotous Assemblies Act.

He has also since been charged under common law for the same matter. He will therefore stand trial from July 4 to 5.

In June of 2016, Malema reportedly urged local supporters to invade land which ‘whites had no claim to’ in South Africa.

Malema appeared in court in November 2016 where he reiterated calls for the illegal occupation of land.

The case was postponed to October 13.

Both times, parts of Murchison Street outside the Newcastle Magistrates Court, were locked down while officers directed traffic away from the precinct.

Newcastillians are advised that a similar protocol will ensue at the start of the trial.
