Bowling pairs mix up the competition in Newcastle, KZN

Bowlers vied for the meat prizes at the weekend.

LADYSMITH – Klipbank Bowling Club in Ladysmith hosted the playoffs of the KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls Mixed Pairs competition last weekend.

Competition was keen as the winners of this tournament qualify for the South African Mixed Pairs Championships, where the winners of all districts in South Africa compete.

After two rounds, all teams were on two points having each won one and lost one game.

Klipbank’s Barbara Baleri and Jimmy Nel recovered from their first round loss to win their next four games and walk away with the title.

Richards Bay’s Danie Schoeman and Helene de Wet were the runners-up.

The popular monthly FedAuto meat competition played last Saturday afternoon, was followed by an evening social enjoyed by all.

A wild pig on the spit kindly donated by Henk Zaal, was prepared by President, Monty Steele and son Douglas, while Michelle Steele ensured the veggies were well prepared.

Many thanks to all.

Winners of the meat competition were Lou Roux, Simon Ball, Gert Roos and young Ethan Deysel (10 + 19).

The second-placed team, Henk Zaal, George Howell and Eleen Roux (10 + 14) were each rewarded with a chicken.

Playing in one of the outstanding Singles Championship semi-finals last Sunday, Trevor Smale beat Gert Roos to advance to the final, where he awaits the winner of the match between Sid Price and Ron Howe.
