Paradise clinches Trevor Smith Sports Shield

Husain Essop opens up for Paradise during the final match of the Trevor Smith Sports Shield competion.

ARBOR PARK – The final of the Trevor Smith Sports Shield competition took place at Arbor Park Sports Grounds last Saturday, with a stand-off between Paradise and FNB Insurance Brokers Phoenix.

Paradise batted first and posted 132 runs, that was certainly a competitive total.

Phoenix lost quick wickets at crucial times in the match, and despite 38 runs from John Clark, Phoenix fell short of the target by 23 runs, which gave Paradise its third trophy of the season, having also bagged the Johan Ferreira Night League plate and the Spur Super Saturday league.

At the Paradise grounds, Underdogs won the first Newcastle Sport and Recreation Saturday plate after beating Eagles by 100 runs.

Arslan Butt was the star of the show, scoring 65 runs and claiming four wickets, proving he was one of Newcastle’s premier all-rounders.

The KFC Night League has entered its Super Six phase with Paradise, Phoenix, Drakensberg Old Boys, Underdogs, Eagles and Asians left to compete for the ultimate prize.

The Perfect Water 6-a-side will start on March 18, with the season finishing at the end of the month.
