Selling the Suzuki lifestyle
Since opening its doors in November, 2011, Suzuki Newcastle has maintained stellar service standards and customer care.
“We are a registered motor vehicle dealership part of the Docrat Group,” said Dealer Principal, Rosa Buitendach. “We strive to uphold the proud image of the company, and are always willing to go the extra mile when it comes to our customers.”
Whether you’re in the market for a pre-owned or new vehicle, there’s something for everyone at Suzuki. “We also have a parts department, and a fully-equipped workshop.”
Mrs Buitendach explained her branch recently became a motorcycle dealer for Suzuki. Motorcycles can now be purchased, and serviced right on the client’s doorstep. She added that it takes sincerity, honesty and integrity to succeed in the world of vehicle sales. “You have to have a sound knowledge of the product you are presenting and, most of all, take care of your client throughout the ownership of their vehicle."
What do you have to study, both at secondary and tertiary level, to qualify for this career?
“No further studies are required, as the manufacturers will supply products, as well as marketing training. This will differ from person to person. It could take only three months for a sales executive to go through the training needed,” she said.
The most rewarding part of Mrs Buitendach’s job is to see the sheer elation on a client’s face as they experience that ‘first car’ feeling, and knowing they are satisfied with the service. “After all, a vehicle is not a luxury anymore, it’s a necessity.”
To be successful as a sales representative, being a ‘go-getter’ is a given. “You need to have enthusiasm and tact,” said Mrs Buitendach. “You also need to have knowledge of the finance process, so that you can offer your client the best solution for his purchase.”
A day in the life of a ‘rep’ consists of meeting clients on the showroom, visiting them at their place of work, and cold calling. “If you are willing to learn every day and go out there and sell, while providing the best service possible to your clients, you can be very successful.”
The Suzuki Newcastle team is diverse, with staff from all walks of life; a factor playing heavily in their success to date.
“We are well situated and relatively close to the smaller towns around us. We are able to service Northern KwaZulu-Natal in its entirety. Newcastle is definitely the hub of region, and we plan to take full advantage of that,” concluded Mrs Buitendach.
