No grass to grow under feet

Nkosinathi Miya removes overgrown grass on Hibiscus Avenue.

NEWCASTLE – Fed-up about a lack of service delivery, Marie Kotze has taken matters into her own hands by ensuring overgrown grass was cut in Hibiscus Avenue.

Complaints were recently aired on social media regarding overgrown trees and grass along the street.

While municipal workers trimmed the trees, the nothing was done about the long grass.

After allegedly lodging complaints about the grass at the municipality, Mrs Kotze hired a general worker to cut the grass and paid him out of her own pocket.

“I have raised concerns about the grass that affects the vision of motorists, so I decided to take action.”

Ward 2 Councillor Bebsie Cronje commended Mrs Kotze.

“I would like to thank her from the bottom of my heart, as I have tried my best to get things done but there has been no municipal service delivery,” she said.

The municipality was contacted for comment, but none was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
