A seven-year-old girl is reportedly in a stable condition after nearly drowning at the Suryaville swimming pool at about 6pm.

According to ER24, paramedics arrived on scene to find lifeguard, Alistair Bouwer and off-duty fireman, Claude Windvogel had performed CPR on the youngster.

It is understood Mr Bouwer retrieved her from the public pool, and when she showed no signs of life, her rescuers initiated CPR.

“A short while later they managed to regain a pulse,”  read a statement issued by ER24. “ER24 paramedics transported her to the Newcastle Provincial Hospital for further medical care.”

Mr Bouwer and Mr Windvogel were commended on going beyond what was expected in order to save a young life.
