JUSTICE: Young boy’s rapist finally sentenced to 18 years behind bars

The boy immediately reported the incident to his mother, who rushed him to hospital.

A 25-year-old man from Madadeni received an 18 year prison sentence for raping a 7-year-old boy in Madadeni, Section 7 in April 2013.

According to police reports, the young boy was on his way to school when he was accosted by the accused.

“The accused took the boy to his shack, where he forcefully raped the child and then threatened him not to tell anybody, before letting him go.”

The boy immediately reported the incident to his mother, who rushed him to hospital before reporting the matter to the Madadeni SAPS.

The case was registered and transferred to the Newcastle Sexual Offence Unit (FCS) and the suspect was arrested.

After appearing in court, the accused was granted bail until he appeared at the Madadeni Regional Court on August 31, 2017.

“The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.”

In a recent interview with LifeLine Newcastle Satellite Office Manager and social worker, Nokulunga Magubane, the severity of the problem of rape was highlighted. Magubane said counsellors at the Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) in Madadeni received cases of rape and assault on a daily basis.

She confirmed the areas most affected by rape, sexual assault and gender based violence were Madadeni Section 7, oSizweni, Blaauwbosch, and Dannhauser, and said that although women and children of all ages were affected, most victims were under the age of 18 years old.

“It is essential to report these crimes to the Thuthuzela Care Centre at the Madadeni Hospital, within 72 hours after the assault,” said Magubane. “The victim should also avoid bathing, showering or using the toilet, as the evidence would be washed away.”

Victims of rape, domestic violence and sexual assault are urged to report the crime to LifeLine Newcastle Satellite Office on 033 342 4447, Ext 225.
