Vehicle burns on Sutherland Street

A car was engulfed by flames shortly before 5pm this afternoon (June 11) on Sutherland Street.

The driver of the car and his girlfriend claimed they were listening to music on a vacant plot of land when the vehicle caught fire.

“I was standing by the driver’s side, when I heard a loud pop,” the driver said. He chose to remain anonymous.

He stated the sound was followed by a burst of flame from the rear of the vehicle.

“I saw smoke coming from the bonnet and I pulled my girlfriend out.”

The driver and passersby tried to extinguish the flames, but were unable to quell the inferno.

The Fire Department responded and doused the fire.

No injuries were sustained.
