The 100km Cycle Challenge returns

Step into the saddle this weekend with the Checkers and The Pines Cycle Challenge.

SUNNY RIDGE – Time is short until the Checkers and The Pines Cycle Challenge.

Only a few days remain until avid cyclists from Newcastle and further afield tackle 100 or 20 kilometres in the saddle.

The competition kicks off on May 21 from the Pines (HJ van Eck Drive).

Due to unforeseen circumstances and factors, organisers said both the 17km event and the 6km off-road race have been cancelled.

“The route will be the same as last year; starting at The Pines proceeding to the N11 then turning right onto the Utrecht Road.”

Competitors in the 20km race turn around across the bridge at the water table, while the 100km endurance riders turn at the water table just past the entrance to Utrecht.

Organisers have urged cyclists to exercise caution while on the route.

“We will have the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) patrolling the route, and stationed officers [will be] at all the crossings and turn-arounds.”

Social riders are also welcome.

With prize money up for grabs for category winners, entry forms are available at The Pines, Checkers at the Amajuba Mall, Triathlon Cycles (Victoria Drive) and online at www.kzncycling.co.za.

Alternatively, contact Michelle (083 378 8987) or Chantell (084 422 0002).

For non-competitors, refreshments will be available at The Pines, in addition to a jumping castle and other entertainment for the children.
