Woman killed in N11 collision

Paramedics arrived to find the truck on fire and one woman dead.

A truck burst into flames following a collision on the N11 this morning.

According to Werner Vermaak, Communications Manager for ER24, a woman was killed and a man injured when the truck and a light motor vehicle collided between Newcastle and Ladysmith.

Paramedics and emergency services arrived at the scene just after 5am.

Mr Vermaak said reports indicated the woman was still inside the vehicle, and was declared dead on scene, while the truck was on fire.

The driver of the truck was lying wounded nearby.

He was assessed, treated and transported to Dundee Hospital, after which traffic officials closed the N11 about seven kilometres from the Dundee offramp.

The cause of the collision will be investigated by relevant authorities.
