Two suspects arrested for hijacking in Montague Street, Newcastle CBD

NEWCASTLE CBD – Newcastle police arrested two men for hijacking a vehicle in Montague Street in Newcastle CBD on Saturday, March 11.

Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Lizzy Arumugam said the driver of the vehicle was waiting for a truck to pass, when he was accosted by two men who threatened him with a knife.

“The men took the victim to an open veld and robbed him of his possessions before fleeing the scene in the vehicle.”

The perpetrators, 20 and 26 years old respectively, are expected to appear in court soon.
