Super Six promises tasty entertainment

The cricket season is soon to start up.

PARADISE – It was finger-licking good action with the first round of the KFC Super Six.

Asians got its campaign off to a sound start with a victory over Paradise, the current local team to beat this season.

Sohail Gori was the deserved man of the match.

He smashed 50 at the top of the order and claimed two wickets, with Usman Desai bowling a superb spell to take three scalps in four overs.

This broke the back of a balanced and disciplined Paradise unit.

FNB Insurance Brokers Phoenix enjoyed similar fortunes in its opener against Underdogs, posting 113 thanks to 31 from Andrew Charters and 24 not out from John Clark.

Underdogs were then restricted to 70 for nine in its 20 overs.

Ruwayne Chetty bowled his best spell of the season to finish with figures of three for six from four overs, while Graham Sharp did the damage with the new ball.

He earned himself two wickets for just 10 runs.

Newcastle and Districts Cricket Association president, Johan Ferreira said this was the final stretch of the cricket season, and the weekend would bring the maiden Perfect Water Six-A-Side tournament.

All matches will be played at the Paradise Grounds.

“Each team faces five overs with pink cricket balls. Spectators are invited to come and join in on the fun.”
