eMadlangeni remains mum on MM

The eMadlangeni Municipality has held its tongue about the suspension of its MM.

Utrecht’s new Mayor has avoided questions on the suspension of a senior official.

Newly-elected Mayor, Lindile Mhlungu ended multiple phone calls from the press, relating to the suspension of Gugu Ntshangase as Muncipal Manager of eMadlangeni Municipality.

This suspension was confirmed through varying sources.

Mrs Ntshangase was reportedly suspended on allegations of misconduct, believed to relate to AfriForum’s request for proof of officials’ qualifications three years earlier.

“Our initial request for proof of qualifications was refused and followed by several court cases.”

eMadlangeni Municipality won the initial court battle, although AfriForum won the proverbial war through an appeal.

AfriForum is now intent on pushing forward with its request.

“We are going to ask for the qualifications now, but the municipality is so broken, what will it be worth?”

The actions of Mrs Ntshangase prompted Utrecht’s council to appoint a committee, mandated to investigate and report back.

A forensic audit has also been undertaken.

Pending an investigation into alleged misconduct, the position of Municipal Manager was handed over to Sinethemba Mtshali, also SED of Planning and Development.
